Cancer is a terrible disease. With the gradual rise in the number of people being diagnosed with cancer, the situation is looking quite gloomy. According to oncologists, with advanced medicines and diagnoses procedures, it is possible to treat the disease. After successfully completing the treatment, the patient can lead a healthy life. However, it is important that the disease be diagnosed in its early stages. The earlier detection mean the treatment could be initiated early, increasing the chances of survival.

Keeping in mind, the mantra of early detection of the disease, in this page you can learn about the ovarian cancer. The disease effects woman who have ovarian cysts or tumour. It is not that all the cysts or tumours around the ovaries would turn into cancer. In fact, as per the doctor of a fertility treatment center proving the best ivf in Kolkata, many women in some point of their life might contact ovarian cyst or tumors. These anomalies in most cases do not develop into cancer.

Ovaries are small organs, which grows eggs. These eggs are produced throughout the reproductive age of the woman; typically, from the age a girl reaches puberty to the age she hits menopause. Sometimes, due to an anomaly the ovaries tend to develop small sacs of air or fluid bubbles, which later on turn into a cyst. These cysts can cause some mild to severe effects in the woman’s health. The issues like irregular and painful menstruation cycles are quite common. In some cases, these cysts can become malignant, leading to ovarian cancer.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer:

According to statistics, around 5% of the women suffering from cancer are the patients of ovarian cancer. During the early stages, the women might experience little or no symptoms at all. As the disease progresses, the patient might experience pain the abdomen, frequent urges for urination, pain during intercourse, irregularities during menstruation. Some woman might also experience unusual hair growth over the face and body.

Along with it if the woman is, loosing weight at a tremendous rate, then it could be something to worry. If some one is experiencing some of these issues for more than two months, then consulting a physician could be a good idea.

Diagnosis of the cancer:

In case the doctor suspects cancer, he would immediately order blood and imaging tests.  In the blood test, the level of tumour marker called CA-125 in the blood would be evaluated. A higher level of tumour marker could indicate presence of tumour in the ovaries. Also, the imaging tests such as MRI or ultrasound can determine whether the tumour or cyst is benign or not.

If possible, the doctor conducts a biopsy, where a sample of the growing mass from the ovaries is collected and evaluated. According to specialist, it is the most reliable method of determining cancer.

How the treatment is done?

The reason for development of cysts in the ovaries is not know till now. Also, why some cysts turn malignant or cancerous is still a mystery. However, during the treatment phase, these questions become absurd. If a person is detected with ovarian cancer, during the initial phases, the doctor most probably removes the malignant mass from the ovaries. If the disease has not metastases or spread to the other parts of the body, the patient might not require the other aggressive treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiation.

The overall outlook:

Awareness is the key to the good health. Consulting the doctor immediately, in case some unusual symptoms crop up, can save the life of the patient.
