How to Choose the Best Mattress Size for Sleeping?

February 9, 2019 | Author: | Posted in Shopping

The decision to purchase a new mattress is not one that can be made overnight. Innovations in sleep technology have led to the creation of hundreds of different mattress styles. Even those who like their current mattress will have trouble finding an exact replacement due to the continuous development of new models. According to Consumer Reports, nearly one in five homeowners will try to replace their current mattress with one of the same brands. The other 80 percent, however, seek out other options. When the time comes to choose a new mattress, you want to make sure you pick the size that will best accommodate your sleeping habits.

How to Choose the Best Mattress Size for Sleeping

  • Step 1: Determine Sleeping Arrangements

The first step in deciding between mattress sizes is to first identify how many people will be sharing the bed. If you are the only person using the mattress, you have many size options to choose from. However, not all mattress sizes can accommodate two people comfortably. If you’re sharing the bed with a partner, you may want to only look at larger sized mattresses like queens or kings.

  • Step 2: Take Your Old Mattress into Consideration

Was your full mattress too small? Did your king mattress take up too much space in your bedroom? Think about what you did not enjoy about the size of your previous mattress and consider shopping for a mattress that is one size smaller or larger. If you sleep with a partner, ask them the same questions. Some people may feel too cramped in a smaller bed while others may not enjoy being so far away from their partner on a larger mattress.

  • Step 3: Test Each Mattress Size in Store

According to The Better Sleep Council, it’s absolutely necessary that you take the time to test out not only each brand or type of mattress but also each mattress size. If you’re sharing the bed with a partner, have them come along as well to test it out with you. As you browse the inventory, be sure to spend time on the bed in the same positions you sleep in.

  • Step 4: Select a Mattress With a Trial Period

It’s nearly impossible to determine which mattress size is right for you without sleeping on it. Many mattress brands offer trial periods in which you can sleep on the mattress at home for a few months to test its comfort level. If it is not the right size for you, you may be able to return it risk-free.

Selecting The Right Mattress Size

From twin to California king, mattresses come in a variety of sizes. By following the steps above, you can help determine which mattress sizes would be best for your bedroom.
